Position Description: The Texas Collaborative for Healthy Mothers and Babies (TCHMB), an initiative of UT System Population Health, will soon have an opening for a postdoctoral fellowship in Austin, TX. The successful candidate will play a central role on an applied research project aimed at improving access to postpartum care for underserved women in Central Texas. The project will document the experiences of underserved women when navigating the healthcare system from late pregnancy through 4-6 months postpartum, including the transition between public insurance programs; assess how state programs are understood, utilized, and integrated by providers and by the local healthcare system; and, in partnership with state and local stakeholders, develop recommendations to improve women’s experiences with accessing postpartum care. Major responsibilities: •Recruit and consent eligible women to participate in the research project •Conduct interviews and focus groups in English and Spanish with pregnant and post-partum women on their experiences navigating the health care system •Analyze and summarize qualitative data from interviews, journals, and focus groups •Present findings to a variety of audiences, including providers, community stakeholders, and researchers •Assist with reporting requirements and preparing reports on research findings and recommendations •Serve as lead author on at least one peer-reviewed manuscript and co-author on additional manuscripts •Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications: Required education: Applicants must have received a PhD in public health, social work, nursing, sociology, public policy, or a related degree within the last three years, or be graduating with a PhD by May 2019 and able to begin working full-time in January in Austin. Required skills/experience/knowledge: Qualitative research skills, including data collection via interviews and focus groups and data analysis using ATLAS.ti or other qualitative software. Experience working with Latina and/or Black women. Bilingual English/Spanish. Excellent writing and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and with a high degree of professionalism and respect.
