Position Description: JOB DESCRIPTION The CDC Foundation seeks candidates with epidemiologic knowledge and skill to support the CDC. The Epidemiologist position is full time, and works 40 hours per week serving as the opioid syndromic surveillance epidemiologist in the Violence and Injury Prevention Section of the Ohio Department of Health. RESPONSIBILITIES • Plans and executes analytic research projects utilizing methodologies and measures pertinent to the assessment and summarization of the health status of specific populations • Plans and carries out quality control programs and selects statistical and epidemiologic methods for use in quality control analysis • Provides technical assistance to country partners on the development of country-adapted survey methodology and analysis of existing datasets • Develop data analysis plans for state level and county level that is include the use of multiple data sources including mortality, prescription drug monitor program (PDMP), survey (e.g. BRFSS), syndromic, crime lab , SUDORS and other available data sources. • Provide technical assistance on development of community profiles • Assist with the development of comprehensive opioid data dashboards for the state and local communities • Conducts analysis on mortality and PDMP to identify and describe populations at risk and emerging trends to identify opportunities for interventions. • Collaborate with other state and local epidemiologists on epidemiology analysis. • Evaluates quality and efficiency of surveillance systems and makes recommendations for enhancements • Designs, coordinates, and manages special surveillance and/or evaluation procedures where no other existing data are available • Ensures the reliability and consistency of the data while measuring the data limitations; develops procedures and methodology to modify the data and oversees data modifications • Provide expertise in the design, management and evaluation of study protocols and health status questionnaires, sample selection and analysis • Provides statistical insight in the interpretation and discussion of study results • Conducts literature reviews and assists in preparing reports from analyses of surveillance data, literature reviews, and other information using behavioral science, demographic and epidemiologic analytic techniques, and evaluation • Supports the development and writing of project manuals, reports, and peer-review manuscripts, disseminates results of research projects in a wide range of venues and may present results to the scientific community at professional meetings and conferences • Supports the planning and implementation of various project workshops, trainings, and orientation meetings • Data entry and data cleaning, including setting up the data entry program • Become familiar with policy issues • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS • Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Health Information Management or related field • Expert knowledge of epidemiological methods in regard to data analysis, report writing, and research development • Working knowledge of applied survey sampling for all modes of social science data collection • Demonstrated experience with multiple modes of data collection is highly desirable • Knowledge of the methods, principles, and processes of survey research and broad experience in the field • Strong skills in quantitative analysis for complex sample design • Expert skills in the use of computer software and programming, especially packages for statistical analysis (e.g. SPSS, SAS, STATA) and knowledge of computing platforms and data file construction • Knowledge of BioSense and ESOOS platforms, ESOOS algorithm • Experience with analysis of drug overdose mortality data • Experience with analysis of prescription drug monitoring program data, including linkage to other data including mortality.Strong technical skills including word processing, spreadsheet development and management, and database management, with a particular emphasis on proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with particular experience reviewing and editing documents • Demonstrated skills in time management • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial; energetic; and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners
