Position Description: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) in Hyattsville, Maryland, is seeking a Statistician (Health) to work its Office of Analysis and Epidemiology (OAE), Health Promotions and Statistics Branch (HPSB). The incumbent will work closely with a team of analysts in HPSB responsible for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data for the national health promotion/disease prevention initiatives, including the Healthy People initiative. Major duties will include: synthesizing, analyzing, and verifying data; examining trends and disparities in national health objectives over time and across sociodemographic groups; preparing data charts summarizing the status of objectives for departmental reports and meetings; presenting original research papers or posters at professional meetings; and representing NCHS at Healthy People Workgroup meetings and conferences. Additional duties including data verification and analysis for the upcoming Healthy People 2020 Final Review, a major report published every 10 years; and data verification and documentation for the launch of Healthy People 2030, the next iteration of national health objectives. Finally, staff will have the opportunity to participate in high-level meetings within HHS, including Healthy People Progress Reviews with the HHS Assistant Secretary for Health.
