Position Description: The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a part time consultant to support the CDC. This position is part time, and works less than 20 hours a week. Related specifically to opioid overdose deaths, the candidate would be responsible for providing subject matter expertise and consultation on improving death scene investigations, standardizing coroner/medical examiner (CME) reporting, assessing CME practices (e.g., via survey development, structured interviews), and identifying best practices for dissemination and use of CME opioid overdose mortality data. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public's health. The CDC Foundation offers a competitive salary and attractive benefits package. RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide subject matter expertise and consultation on improving CME death scene investigations. • Develop and disseminate information on standardized formats for toxicology reporting • Assess best practices for CMEs through survey as well as structured interviews. • Develop best practices for use of mortality data related to opioid drug overdoses. • On an as needed basis, develop and deliver appropriate presentations to internal and external audiences.

Qualifications: • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and terminology of forensic medicine and toxicology testing. • Considerable knowledge of interviewing techniques and methods. • Medical Examiner preferred. • Training or certification in pathology or relevant field preferred. • Highly detail oriented, works well within a diverse team, demonstrates a high degree of initiative and flexibility, able to communicate effectively in a positive and professional manner, able to prioritize activities when under tight deadlines, and possesses analytical skills. • Strong technical skills including word processing, spreadsheet development and management, and database management, with a particular emphasis on proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with particular experience reviewing and editing documents and presenting technical information to audiences with a wide array of experience. • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial; energetic; and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners. • 5-7 years professional experience
