Position Description: The Outreach Specialist counsels, interviews, a assess, and educates patients and and community members about HIV/STD risk behavior and control measures. Is responsible for scheduling community testing sites for assigned programs, coordinating testing events, and for collecting and managing program data. Is also responsible responsible for ensuring timely and complete grant reporting grant reporting for the program. Promotes a safe environment and performs related job res responsibilities in a professional manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Utilizes the principals and practices of public health in the provision of health-related services to adult and adolescent populations. • Coordinates and participates in community HIV/syphilis events. Provides pre and post-test HIV counseling and manages collection of program data and ensures timely and complete reporting of program activities and data as required. • Participates as a multidisciplinary team member by going beyond expected role by assisting others as needed but remaining within the expected scope of practice. • Participates in special projects and awareness campaigns for agency-wide e endeavors. • Mentors and assists in orienting new staff, as a appropriate. • Coordinates testing services including risk assessment at clinic/community sites throughout t the county.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICIATIONS Experience: Three years of experience in co counseling and/or education with an emphasis on on HIV/STD risk reduction Education: HS diploma or GED Equivalent Experience for Education Accepted? N/A Computer Skills: Basic computer skills and w with associated applications/software. Licenses and Certifications: Valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver's license. Must obtain and maintain a valid Mecklenburg County Vehicle Operator’s Permit.

PREFERRED QUALIFICIATIONS Previous experience working with priority popula populations (i.e. YAAMSM, MSM, & members of the LGBTQ) at risk for contracting HIV/STD Previous experience working with diverse populations Ability to work independently and cooperatively with within a team environment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: • Principles of growth and development. • Medical and legal terminology. • The principles of public health and a associated laws. • Human anatomy and physiology.

Skilled in: • Providing necessary care for adolescents, ad adults and geriatric age groups. Abilities: • Communication – Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain t the message. • Collaboration – Working effectively and cooperatively with others; establishing and maintaining maintaining good working relationships. • Leveraging Diversity – Working effectively with individuals of diverse cultures, interpersonal styles, abilities, motivations, or backgrounds; making the most effective use of the capabilities, insights and ideas of all i individuals. • Building Trust – Interacting with others in a way that gives them confidence in one’s intentions intentions and those of the organization.
