Position Description: The Deputy Medical Director of the Division is a senior executive position with the following responsibilities: • Guide the Division in the selection, evaluation, and implementation of evidence- based prevention strategies that align with the Maternal and Child Health Block grant and department priority areas • Oversee development of policies related to women’s health services, infant and maternal mortality reduction, and obesity prevention in local health departments and via collaborative external partnerships • Workforce development including enhanced utilization of the peer-reviewed literature and incorporating this information into program efforts • Assist with preparation and review of grant reports and applications • Develop public health capacity for effective strategic planning, funding utilization, and evaluation • Represent Division at TDH Medical Leadership team meetings as needed • Present to local, regional, state, and national groups as requested on topics relevant to section work • Provide medical review for child and maternal fatality review cases as needed • Provide support for the convening of advisory committees including the Perinatal Advisory Committee, Genetics Advisory Committee, Children’s Special Services, and Birth Defects Registry • Ensure equitable allocation of available funds to groups or geographic regions disproportionately burdened by poor health outcomes

Personnel Details • Direct supervision of 3-5 senior staff (section chiefs, epidemiologists, program managers) • Could arrange for 1 day/week of clinical duties in local health department • Reports to Assistant Commissioner (MD)

Qualifications: Ideal candidate: • Internal Medicine, OB/Gyn, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Med/Peds, or Preventive Medicine • Experience with public health and community-based systems • Vision for systems approach to promoting health • Leadership experience in messaging, assessment, partnerships and programs to address social determinants of health and health disparities • Experience with grant applications and reporting • Experience in management of large teams • Experience in communications with media and high level stakeholders including governmental and community partners

Organization Description: The Division of Family Health and Wellness administers prevention and safety net programs and facilitates partnerships to promote population health objectives across the state. Programs administered by the Division include Chronic Disease and Tobacco Prevention, WIC services, Early Childhood Initiatives, Injury Prevention, Perinatal Regionalization, Newborn Screening, Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs, and Women’s Health programs
