Position Description: The Research Coordinator will work full-time on an NIH-funded study to examine the use of the TB drug bedaquiline in patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis. Specifically, the study will examine the safety of the drug when given concurrently with antiretroviral therapy for HIV and will examine genetic mechanisms of resistance in participants who fail therapy. This project is being conducted at three clinical sites in South Africa. The study follows 200 patient participants over a 2 year period. Data will be collected from medical records and research visits. Research visits include participant interviews, electrocardiograms (ECGs) and blood and sputum collection. Responsibilities:

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the project with investigators, data managers, study coordinator and clinical staff. • Work with Principal Investigator (PI) to develop and update study protocols, including the data collection tools/case report forms, and preparing protocol amendments to the Institutional Review Board as needed. • Manage participant tracking database; prepare regular reports for the PI about participant follow-up and study-visit completion. • Train and supervise Study Coordinator, research nurses and research assistants in South Africa • Coordinate conference calls for the South African research staff, the US-based team meetings and the monthly investigator meetings. • Partner with IT and data programmer/manager to develop/update study databases. • Securely manage and maintain study data. • Oversee research visits and data collection by South African research staff and troubleshoot challenges that emerge. • Perform regular audits to ensure that collected data are complete and accurate, and research protocols are being followed. • Assist in drafting reports, preparing conference abstracts, and presentations related to the project. • Develop regular reports for the IRB and NIH. • Assist the PI in the management of the study budget, tracking of subcontract invoices from collaborating institutions. • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Experience and Educational Background: • Bachelor’s Degree in public health, clinical epidemiology or related field and 3-5 years of experience required. Master's Degree required. • At least two years of experience collecting data for research (e.g. conducting interviews, collecting biologic specimens, extracting medical records).

Skills and Competencies: • As part of a team, must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and adhere to study protocol. • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, • Familiarity with database and statistical software (e.g., REDCap and SAS or Stata). • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; detail oriented. • Able to write scientific documents.
