Purpose: The Data Analyst - Emergency Dep Department will provide analytic support to the the Michigan Department of Health and Human Ser Services (MDHHS) working with statewide eme emergency department (ED) data on drug poi poisonings. This person will: work with the Hea Health Systems Analyst to examine and doc document the attributes of the ED data; and, und under direction of the supervisor and Opioid Sur Surveillance Coordinator, conduct analyses and and develop dissemination tables and mat materials. This position will be housed in the the MDHHS Bureau of Epidemiology and Pop Population Health in Lansing.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Work with supervisor to acquire and maintain an up-to-date database of drug-related ED visits, following all security and confidentiality protocols of that data system

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in statistical or analytic area. Preference given to those possessing a Master’s degree in Public He Health and coursework in epidemiology.
Experience: A minimum of 1-3 years of experien experience in data cleaning, management, and analysis analysis, especially with large datasets. Experien Experience with analytical software, preferab preferably SAS.
Important Skills and Characteristics: Substa Substantial data management experience, analyt analytic and data presentation skills, and abilit ability to manage detailed tasks.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Stan Standard office environment. Involves view viewing a CRT or VDT screen 25% to 75% of the the time.

IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: The Emergency Department Data Analyst has direct inpact on the s surveillance of drug poisoning in Michigan t through data management, analytic support, r report development, as well as documentation o of the dataset. This person will impact the M MOMMSS project by developing data to s supplement morbidity data provided by e emergency medical services and syndromic s surveillance. This person also will impact t the surveillance of drug poisoning more g generally within the MDHHS. The person will c contribute to providing key stakeholders, p policy makers, researchers such as the U University of Michigan Injury Prevention C Center, local programs, and other interested p parties with timely, and comprehensive data o on poisonings due to opioids and other d drugs. Drug poisoning ED data and findings w will be provided in a way that will help p partners reshape state and community level p programming and interventions, and evaluate t the impact of state, local and o organizational policy changes on drug o overdoses.
