Position Description: The Epidemiologist 2 will support the HIV, STD, and Viral Hepatitis surveillance programs by developing solutions and implementing tools to enhance monitoring, reporting, and dissemination of program surveillance data, including matching records across data systems. This position may have the opportunity to supervise and will be housed within the HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Program, in the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP) Division, reporting to the HIV Surveillance and Epidemiology Director. This position will provide data and analytical support to the Ryan White Part B (RW) unit in the Program.

Candidates for this position should be detail-oriented, organized, able to multitask and prioritize, confident in managing projects, and able to self-direct on tasks. A significant part of this position is supporting central and regional TDH staff, and therefore strong oral and written communication skills, a positive attitude, and the desire to collaborate with others is important. Experience conducting active and passive public health surveillance for communicable diseases, and participating in cluster and outbreak investigations is preferred. Additionally, interested candidates should demonstrate critical and systems thinking to solve problems and innovate. This position may require some in-state and out of state travel.

Job responsibilities include: • Conduct analysis and prepare regular and ad-hoc reports for the Ryan White (RW) AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) by evaluating client-level data for errors and ensuring corrective steps are taken, including suggesting ideas or methods to improve ADAP data quality; • Develop and manage Ryan White Quality Management data report, by conducting data quality evaluation as outlined in quality management plan; • Oversee the management, analysis, and completion of data analysis to determine HIV Continuum of Care (CoC) using bi- annually frozen datasets, identifying and correcting errors, and implementing steps to prevent errors; • Complete external requests for RW data, applying data suppression standards, maintaining products, logging related documentation and securely transferring data • Participate in RW program data dissemination by conducting analyses for presentations and/or co-authoring abstracts or manuscripts • Ensuring data quality and usability, including matching client-level records across data systems used in the HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Program; • Representing TDH on national calls with the CDC and other jurisdictions; • Preparing and delivering data presentations to state and national stakeholders; • Writing grant narratives and progress reports.

Qualifications: Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate's degree in epidemiology.

OR

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate's degree in medicine (MD), osteopathic medicine (DO), veterinarian medicine (DVM) public health, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics health sciences, biomedical sciences or environmental sciences with experience equivalent to two years' work experience in epidemiology.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in public health or an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. OR Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, or health informatics with experience equivalent to four year's work experience in epidemiology.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional studies with an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

OR

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in health science, biomedical science or environmental science with experience equivalent to six year's work experience in epidemiology.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional studies with an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

Desired Qualifications: • Communicable disease surveillance or epidemiology experience at a local or state public health department • Familiarity with HIV, STD, and/or viral hepatitis prevention and surveillance • Experience working on federal grants • Proficiency with analytic and data visualization software such as SAS, R, and/or Tableau • Demonstrated ability to manage projects • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Degrees must be from an accredited college or university. A transcript evaluation is required for degrees earned outside of the United States.

Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
