Position Description: Responsibilities The Research Scientist III - Health Informatics will be responsible to implement health informatics strategies in support of the Background Check System (NICS) Act Record Improvement Program (NARIP) grant. The incumbent will lead the development, testing and maintenance of automated data flows, develop disaster recovery systems and procedures, perform data analysis, and design and develop quality assessment processes and reporting to external parties. The incumbent will lead informatics system maintenance and migration, data governance and data stewardship, as well as develop QA/QC protocols for ongoing processes. This incumbent will provide subject matter expertise for informatics strategies and serve as a key liaison between information technology and programmatic staff. Other grant related duties. Occasional night and weekend hours may be required to meet grant deliverables.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, medical or health informatics, or a related field and four years of research experience in public health or health informatics; OR a master's degree in a related field and three years of research experience in public health or health informatics; OR a doctorate in a related field and one year of research experience in public health or health informatics. Preferred Qualifications At least four years of SAS data analysis experience. At least two years of experience with clinical data-representation methods, including coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, SNOMED, LOINC), data models (e.g., XML, relational databases) and HL7 data- interchange standard. At least one year of experience with deterministic or probabilistic matching of public health data. At least two years of experience accessing datasets with over one-million records. At least two years of experience in business process analysis/improvement and implementation of health care or public health information or electronic health record systems. At least two years of project management experience.
