Position Description: The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Medicine in Charleston, South Carolina, seeks a collaborative and visionary academic public health leader to serve as its next chair for the Department of Public Health Sciences. The college is also home to a robust basic, clinical and translational research enterprise, with more than $248.5 million in extramural research funding awarded in the last year. A national leader on many fronts, the college places strong emphasis on diversity and has been recognized for their efforts on this front.

MUSC, the state's only academic health science center, consists of six colleges and educates and trains more than 3,000 students and 750 residents. The next chair will help shape MUSC's public health and population health strategy by working collaboratively across the college and university. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of scholarly achievement and community engagement, demonstrable leadership experience in developing faculty and staff, overseeing budgets and program development. Experience advancing public health within the context of an academic health sciences center environment is helpful, as is a vision for leveraging medical school resources and faculty to advance mutual goals.
