Position Description: The University of Colorado’s Center for Health and Addiction: Neuroscience, Genes and Environment (CUChange) has an available position to supervise a dynamic and productive biomarker laboratory in the context of supporting translational research.

Expected responsibilities: Supervising all bench work performed at CUChange, overseeing/training a team of undergraduate research assistants, ordering and maintaining lab supplies for several studies, managing and projecting cost-sharing across several studies, coordinating sample drop offs with study teams, maintaining laboratory safety codes, DNA extraction from whole blood, lipopolysaccharide stimulation of whole blood, isolation of plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells from whole blood, bead-based/traditional ELISA, PCR methods, freezer upkeep, data management and quality control, and human subject research visit support when necessary. Work will take place in Boulder with the possibility of occasional trips to the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include the following:

Experience supervising others professionally Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to work collaboratively with study staff, postdoctoral researchers, undergraduates, principle investigators, and other laboratories Experience with qPCR, real time PCR, sandwich ELISA, and bead-based ELISA Experience handling biohazardous materials such as human blood, stool, and saliva samples Experience working with hazardous chemicals Experience operating various laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, swinging bucket/micro centrifuge, multichannel/single channel pipettes, biological safety ­­cabinet, cell counter, and cell incubator.

Preferred qualifications include the following:

Ability to extract DNA from whole blood samples Knowledge of Flow Cytometry Ability to extract peripheral blood mononuclear cells from whole blood Experience with management of laboratory supplies & sample inventories Experience working with human research participants REDCap project design and management Automated data management utilizing application programming interface (API) functionality Literacy in R/RStudio

Organization Description: We are a motivated team that conducts transdisciplinary research exploring factors linked with health and risk behavior in regard to exercise, Cannabis use, and alcohol consumption. We seek a full-time research assistant to aid in the collection and processing of biological samples, biomarker data quality control and management, and human subjects research support as necessary. Candidates should possess a bachelor’s in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent degree and skillset. This position is well suited for a individual pursuing a career in laboratory management, translational human subjects research, or other biomedical research.
