Position Description: The Tennessee Department of Health’s Division of Family Health and Wellness is hiring a Public Health Educator 3. The Division of Family Health and Wellness oversees the Department’s initiatives related to Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Early Childhood, Maternal and Newborn Health, Injury Prevention and Detection, Supplemental Nutrition, and Children with Special Health Care Needs. The Public Health Educator 3 position is housed within the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion section. This position will work closely with program and evaluation staff to address strategies related to the CDC funded 1815 Cooperative Agreement.

Job responsibilities include: • Plans and implements evidence-based programs/initiatives to address chronic disease prevention and management. • Prepares and distributes program materials to internal and external stakeholders that conduct chronic disease prevention programs, life-style change programs, and self-management education. • Documents and reports activities related to the 1815 cooperative agreement, including number of trainings, leaders, and community workshops completed. • Works with the 1815 team to prepare and maintain program information via applicable websites and social media platforms. • Participates in trainings, workshops, conferences, and meetings related to diabetes, heart disease, and stroke prevention. • Develops and maintains cooperative, collaborative, working relationships with

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in health education, biology, or a related field and experience equivalent to three years of full-time increasingly responsible professional health education work.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional experience in health education may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of four years. Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional qualifying graduate coursework in health education, biology, or related field may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for year basis, to a maximum of two years. - See more at:

Preferred skills and qualifications: • Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods including presentations, workshops, trainings, behavior change sessions, and small group discussion/facilitation. • Experience working effectively with diverse groups (e.g. governmental agencies, professional organizations, and the public) • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated use of Microsoft Office • Experience conducting public health education/trainings • Strong oral and written communication skills • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Tennessee
