Position Description: Purpose of Position: The vital records epidemiologist will collaborate with other staff to update and analyze the vital records statistical files on deaths, live births, fetal deaths, and intentional termination of pregnancy. This position will coordinate the New Mexico eVitals eVitals system Database Application for Vital Events (DAVE). The incumbent will respond to external and internal user help desk queries on DAVE, serve as the liaison with the vendor and Department of Health (DOH) IT for DAVE software updates and troubleshoot problems. The position will use SAS software to analyze and tabulate vital statistics data by geographic and demographic characteristics, and perform data quality assurance/quality control checks, and linkages of vital records data with other administrative datasets. Incumbent will respond to requests from database users, epidemiologists and program managers within DOH, and external partners such as hospitals, funeral homes, and the Office of the Medical Investigator. The Ideal candidate will have one or more years’ experience tabulating and analyzing data in SAS, experience performing data linkages between administrative datasets and performing data quality assurance checks, and an interest in online, secure cloud database systems.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualification: Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Science, Social Sciences or Statistics.
