Position Description: A research opportunity is currently a available with the Deputy Director for P Public Health Science and Surveillance ( (DDPHSS) within the Office of the Director ( (OD) at the Centers for Disease Control and P Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. A multi-center team at CDC is conducting a 3-year project funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Trust Fund on making electronic health record (EHR) data more available for research and public health. The ability to access timely data documented within EHRs has been a challenge in research and public health. With the recent maturation of several important health IT standards, there is an opportunity to identify common data extraction needs and develop a standards Centered Outcomes Research Trust Fund on m making electronic health record (EHR) data m more available for research and public h health. With the recent maturation of several important health IT standards, there is an opportunity to identify common data extraction needs and develop a standards-based solution that can be used across multiple use cases. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will be trained in and contribute to the following activities: Model multiple use cases in order to help combine the needs and requirements into a common architecture. Design of a reference architecture based on the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and related health IT standards for extracting data from EHRs. Develop FHIR implementation guides (IGs) Design and execution of a national based solution that can be used across multi multiple use cases. Under the guidance of a mentor, the part participant will be trained in and cont contribute to the following activities: Model multiple use cases in order to help com combine the needs and requirements into a com common architecture. Test products (e.g., IGs, reference ar architecture, etc.) for at least one use case Plan and execute evaluation of this project a and draft a plan to evaluate longer term o outcomes. Participate in a large multi-stakeholder T Technical Expert Panel (TEP) to provide a advice that will guide the technical d direction of this project (will include s stakeholders such as federal partners, c clinical organizations, EHR vendors, health I IT developers and standards experts, public h health organizations). Learn an agile approach, including with various project aspects.

Qualifications: The qualified candidate should have received a m a master's or doctoral degree in one of the rel relevant fields, or be currently pursuing one one of the degrees and will reach completion by by the end of June 2019. Degree must have bee been received within five years of the app appointment start date. Preferred skills: Familiarity with HL7 standards (FHIR, CDA) Familiarity with standard vocabularies and data standards (SNOMED, ICD, RxNorm) Knowledge of any of these languages: JSON, XML XML, HTML Experience in use case modeling Knowledge of clinical or public health i informatics or data management Ability to understand and interpret analytical results

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. related benefits.
