Work Location: Detroit, Michigan

Purpose: The person in this position will pro provide information on the Michigan Dep Department of Health and Human Services Eat Saf Safe Fish Guidelines to people fishing the Det Detroit River.

Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide education and outreach to s shoreline anglers who consume fish from the D Detroit River. • Engage with anglers and distribute E Eat Safe Fish materials at over 20 fishing s sites along the Detroit River at various d days and times, including mornings, a afternoons, early evening, weekdays, and w weekends. • The fishing sites cover an area on the Michigan side of the river from Detroit’s Mariner Park (located at the mouth o of the Detroit River) to Elizabeth Park in T Trenton. • Attend special events, engage with c community members, and distribute Eat Safe F Fish information and materials. • Accurately fill and maintain MDHHS t tracking forms. • Submit records to MDHHS Detroit Eat S Safe Fish Project Coordinator on a weekly b basis. • Collaborate with the MDHHS Detroit Eat Sa Eat Safe Fish Project Coordinator.

Qualifications/Requirements Education: Equivalent to a high school dip diploma. Experience: Experience is not required for th this position. However, experience and kn knowledge of fishing or the fishing co community be considered in determining st starting salary. Important Skills and Characteristics: • Must have own transportation. • Excellent communication skills are i important, especially the ability to convey t technical information to the lay public. • Must be able to work independently. • Professional demeanor required. • Knowledge of fishing, ecology, and/ and/or healthcare, and experience working with with local organizations. Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Wor Work environment will vary. Attendance at num numerous meetings and events will be req required. Events may be indoors or out outdoors. Some events occur during evenings and and weekends. This person will need to tra transport boxes of outreach items that may wei weigh up to 40 pounds. Means to transport out outreach supplies and event materials thr throughout the city of Detroit, Downriver, and and surrounding areas.

IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES, AND O OPERATIONS: This position is funded by a l limited term award for two years from the U U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The p person in this position interacts with the p public via meetings, telephone c conversations, and events. This position is r responsible for promoting and distributing e educational materials on fish consumption a and assisting with the integration of Eat S Safe Fish messaging into public health s systems by coordinating activities, e establishing priorities, and reporting p project activities to MDHHS and FDR.
