Would you like to join the Virginia Department of Health efforts in becoming the healthiest state in the Nation? The Office of Family Health Services; Division of Community Nutrition is looking for a Human Services Program Coordinator that will serve as the Special Nutrition Programs Specialist. With a budget of about $47 million dollars the Virginia Special Nutrition Program is comprised of the Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) serving children and aged or functionally impaired adults attending day care facilities, emergency shelters, at- risk after school programs, and family day care homes. Facilities in the CACFP receive cash reimbursement for serving the food. The facilities enter into agreements with VDH (either directly or through sponsors of groups of facilities) to provide these services and assume administrative and financial responsibility. The participating institutions and sponsors and the facilities preparing the food must be audited in accordance with USDA guidelines. This position will provide support in a staff capacity, by focusing on intermediate term program issues with agency wide application. Characteristic duties include: program development, planning, monitoring, analysis, grants management, recommending policies and procedures, program research, and evaluating changes in rules, regulations and legislative proposals for impact on service delivery. Thorough knowledge of program management, analytical principles and service integration is necessary. Responsibilities are carried out independently based on an outline or work plan developed by or approved by the supervisor.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include experience in research, data collection and analysis. Experience in program auditing and monitoring. Experience in providing training and technical assistance. Experience in public speaking. Demonstrated skills in program planning, verbal and written communication. Ability to work with diverse populations of professionals and community groups to achieve desired outcomes. Ability to interpret and apply State and/or Federal regulations and policy. Ability to establish and manage multiple tasks and work priorities, and problem solve in positive ways. Frequent overnight travel required. Must have a valid driver’s license. A Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, nutrition, community health, health administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Preferred experience with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and/or Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Prefer MS in Business, Public Administration or Public Health.
