Position Description: The Pennsylvania State University is committed to ensuring that diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the success of a world- class research institution. Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW), a unit within Student Affairs, is seeking a health promotion professional to provide creative, energetic and strategic leadership for prevention and wellness initiatives. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Associate Director. Primary responsibilities include planning, supervising, delivering, and evaluating a range of initiatives utilizing peer health educators. Initiatives will address a variety of topics including alcohol and other drugs, multicultural health issues, nutrition, sexual health, and wellness. Additional responsibilities include co-instructing a 3-credit academic peer health education training course. The individual will also be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating new health promotion and wellness initiatives. This job provides leadership for health promotion within Student Affairs and across the University. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards for education and prevention practice within parameters set by relevant professional groups. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s degree or equivalent in health promotion, public health or related field is preferred. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification is preferred, but not required. We are seeking someone with a record of accomplishment who is creative and values innovation along with excellence. Knowledge of and experience with peer education, evidence-based approaches, health promotion theory and practice (including the social-ecological model), assessment and evaluation are important. We are seeking an individual who is committed to and has experience working with diverse populations. Experience with technology is essential, as are outstanding interpersonal communication and dynamic leadership abilities. This position may require the candidate to operate a motor vehicle as part of the job duties.
