Position Description: Under the direct supervision of the Surveillance Epidemiology Program Manager in the Infectious Disease Surveillance Section, the Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) Surveillance Coordinator will: • Interacts with other state agencies, health care providers, laboratories and other data sources to report, collect, and verify disease incidence and case information for reportable vaccine-preventable preventable diseases.

Assists with preparation of federal grant progress reports. • Consults with officials of state, local and private agencies and the public to ensure outbreak investigation coordination and recommend control measures where needed. • Researches and recommends policies to enhance timeliness and completeness of the vaccine-preventable disease surveillance system in New Hampshire in accordance with NH Immunization Program grant requirements. • Monitors and helps coordinate, in conjunction with the public health laboratory, the collection and submission of influenza and other vaccine-preventable preventable disease preventable preventable disease-related specimens. • Drafts policy recommendations for officials of state, local and private agencies to reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases and reduce barriers to immunization in general. • Makes formal presentations to medical and other groups related to surveillance and response to vaccine preventable disease in NH. • Ensures availability to support the Department as needed in the event of public health emergency.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health or related biological science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year required work experience. Master’s degree preferred. Knowledge in the areas of epidemiology and statistics, vaccine recommendations, and computer applications preferred.

Experience: Four years’ professional or paraprofessional experience in epidemiology, surveillance, data analysis or a public health-related field with responsibility for program implementation, direct service delivery, planning or program evaluation. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
