Position Description: Serve as the Kansas Syndromic Surveillance Program (KSSP) coordinator and lead epidemiologist. Plan, direct, and coordinate epidemiological study and outbreak investigation using syndromic surveillance data. Coordinate and prepare documentation, support materials, deliverables, and reportables for grant applications and grant reporting. Develop data use agreements and contracts to support KSSP goals. Coordinate planning of and implement efforts to expand use of ESSENCE application for hospital and health department public health surveillance. Design and evaluate ESSENCE data queries to support epidemiological study of hospital and health care facility injury and illness reporting. Design and implement complex research and statistical models in order to support the use of syndromic data to evaluate health problems and assess potential public health impact. Conduct descriptive and comprehensive syndromic data analyses to support grant applications, project planning/evaluation, grant reporting, and infectious and chronic disease program activities

Qualifications: Masters in Public Health with Epidemiology focus Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Public Health or Biostatistics Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Proofreading, editing, attention to detail Presentation skills SAS, R, SQL Regular Expressions programming skills Technical writing skills Experience in solving problems in a team environment Experience in proofreading reports and statistical tables Experience in use of Quality Improvement techniques Experience in managing projects Experience in writing research reports Experience analyzing complex databases Experience in syndromic surveillance & related software

Organization Description: The department is the state cabinet level agency responsible for public health, Medicaid, and environmental protection. We are a PHAB accredited health department.
