Position Description: Provides leadership, medical oversight and direction to public health staff and clinics in areas including but not limited to immunizations, disease epidemiology and investigation, STDs, harm reduction, family planning and health promotion. Provides clinical services in county public health offices as needed. In cooperation with the Regional Director, works with communities to assess and address public health issues and concerns. The incumbent also works to engage community partners to address public health concerns.

Qualifications: Medical Degree from an accredited medical school and six (6) years in the licensed practice of medicine is required. Must be licensed in accordance with the Medical Practice Act, Sections 61-6-1 through 61-6-35 NMSA 1978, and 16.10.1 through 16.10.19 NMAC, as applicable. 35 NMSA 1978, and 16.10.1 through 16.10.19 NMAC, as applicable.

The Department provides a statewide system of Health Promotion and Community Health Improvement, Chronic Disease Prevention, Infectious Disease Prevention, Injury Prevention and other Public Health services. Prevention and early intervention strategies are implemented through the Department's local Public Health Of Offices and contracts with community providers.

Additional Information: Working Conditions: Services are provided in communities, clinics, auxiliary site settings and in the homes of consumers to a diverse racial and ethnic population, many who do not speak English Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. Potential exposure to communicable diseases. Travel to provide outreach and coverage to attend training sessions and meetings with the occasional overnight stay is required.
