The Division of Population Health Data is looking for a dynamic, high initiative Director to provide state leadership and coordination of the Virginia Cancer Registry (VCR). Primary responsibilities include leading and coaching staff such as quality assurance coordinator, training and development coordinator, cancer epidemiologists, and cancer data analysts; managing the CDC cooperative agreement (grant) for the VCR; providing oversight for the development of public health initiatives related to the VCR and meeting the state mandated statute; providing guidance and consultation for subcontracts in accomplishing the tasks; assuring protection of database and obtains needed IT support for the program; development and maintenance of a medical advisory committee; ongoing assessment of needs for the VCR, and long-term work plans to address needs which includes quality assurance and evaluation indicators. Ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in monitoring statistical data and reviewing reports required for documentation, and reporting to CDC, VDH and other health care agencies. Skills needed to be successful in this position include setting priorities and performance standards for staff, training subordinates, monitoring overall program performance for quality based on goals and objectives, managing grants, and analyzing legislative or other regulatory impact on service delivery. The VCR Director serves on the Division Management Team, where analytics maturity, data quality, and dissemination activities are championed.

Qualifications: This position requires knowledge of: disease prevention and control issues with specific expertise in cancer registry/large data base administration and management; health care practices; behavior change; epidemiology; public/private health settings; roles of other members of the health team; public health; grants management, financial management and budgetary procedures; data collection, evaluation and statistical analysis techniques. Skills in: health program planning, implementation, and evaluation; budget management; human resource management; experience with supervising multi-disciplinary staff; technical assistance; writing reports, program plans and grants; communication and public speaking. Abilities in: excellent oral communication; making presentations and conducting training sessions; excellent written communications -writing reports, correspondence and grants; acting according to polices and procedures; listening; excellent interpersonal skills; learning computer software packages and using them for work assignments; working as a team member; adapting to change; occasional travel overnight; effectively solve problems and make appropriate decisions; plan, organize and evaluate programs, training sessions, and conferences; adapting to different types of people; analyze information and use it in report writing and program planning; interpretations of laws, rules, regulations and guidelines to assess program compliance and development; working independently and confidently.

Prefer CTR, MPH or experience working in a central cancer registry or public health. Experience in grant writing, grant and budget management, supervision, and health program management are critical needs for this position.
