Purpose: The Laboratory Technician serves as an an entry level professional, performing a bro broad range of complex assignments in the New Newborn Screening Laboratory.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Tests dried blood spot specimens f from newborns for evidence of congenital e endocrine and exocrine disorders, inborn e errors of metabolism, selected h hemoglobinopathies, DNA mutation analysis, a and real time quantitative PCR using e established procedures and protocols and in a accordance with Michigan law and accepted m medical practice. • Adhering to a rigorous Quality A Assurance program is a necessity to g guarantee accurate and precise clinical r results. • Other duties and responsibilities as a assigned by supervisor. • Maintain a positive, strong, credible, credible, professional and interpersonal relations relationship with all parties relevant to MDHHS/MPH MDHHS/MPHI projects and represent the best interest interest of MDHHS/MPHI at all times.
Education: B.S. in Medical Technology, Bioch Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Molec Molecular Biology or similar field.
Experience: No experience required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: An employee working with specimens of human origin is required to employ “universal precautions” in the laboratory; that is, to tr treat each specimen as if it were capable of di disease transmission and to use personal pr protection devices such as gloves, safety gl glasses, and lab coats to prevent co contamination. Must have ability to work at a a computer and operate normal office eq equipment. Job involves keyboarding and vi viewing a CRT or VDT screen.
