Position Description: As a Community Health Educator, your primary duties will include: • Serving as a resource for substance abuse prevention best practice and strategies. • Engaging community volunteers in substance abuse prevention. • Developing Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention coalition leadership. • Analyzing public health needs in the community and collaboratively designing, implementing and evaluating programs. • Initiating and responding to media contacts and applying health education expertise in department messaging, mass media and social media. • Participating in community-based research efforts to build evidence for community health education. • Participating in improving agency performance, processes, programs and interventions through continuous quality improvement. • Analyzing public health data and communicating priority public health issues. • Assist with data collection, grant writing and evaluation of contract and grant programs.

Qualifications: Your minimum qualifications must include: • Bachelor’s degree in health education, communications, nursing, or other human service or related field. Master’s degree preferred. • At least one year of relevant work experience with diverse populations and complex public programs. • Ability to engage partners, build/maintain relationships, generate ideas and involve partners through team building and effective facilitation. • Knowledge of available educational resources, best practice and research-based strategies for population health at the individual, community and systems levels. • Strong written and verbal communication. • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. • Positive, friendly and culturally appropriate attitude toward serving the public.

Organization Description: The Eau Claire City-County Health Department has an exciting opportunity for a Community Health Educator with a focus on substance abuse prevention activities. This position requires both public health knowledge and experience as well as excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. This position will support AODA prevention activities in Eau Claire County through working with the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention coalition, schools, health systems, community-based organizations, and consumers.
