Position Description: The Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Research Specialist II to work in close collaboration and coordination with the Healthy Living research team, whose work focuses on addressing health disparities and promoting nutrition and health equity through clinical and community-engaged randomized controlled trials as well as dissemination and implementation research and related projects. The Research Specialist II will provide faculty and researchers with operational and technical support for Healthy Living research projects and initiatives.

The Research Specialist II will contribute to achieving the goals of the Healthy Living program and projects that are focused on health equity and health disparities; food access, food systems, food insecurity, and dietary patterns and behaviors; physical activity behaviors and intervention development; policy system and environmental change; citizen science and community-engaged research; and mHealth technologies for monitoring, assessment, and intervention implementation.

We aim to understand the means of building communities around healthy living and about facilitating the delivery of current, accurate, evidence-based programs, guidelines, and information that supports healthier living for Texans. A state-of-the- art building for healthy living initiatives is being designed at the Dallas campus and will open in 2022.

The Research Specialist II will contribute to achieving the goals of the Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture through supporting Healthy Living research studies and projects that are focused on health equity and health disparities; food access, food systems, food insecurity, and dietary patterns and behaviors; physical activity behaviors and intervention development; policy system and environmental change; citizen science and community engaged research; and mHealth technologies for monitoring, assessment, and intervention implementation.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree plus six years of experience in a field relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the assignment.

Fluent in Spanish and English, verbal and written.

Appropriate research background, including experience with clinical trials and/or community-engaged research and evaluation projects.

Strong software and computer skills, including mastery of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.

Preferred Education/Experience

Master’s Degree in related field (e.g., public health, nutrition, statistics, clinical research, and other related education and experience that enables the candidate to achieve job expectations).

Appropriate research background, including experience with community-engaged research and evaluation projects, specifically data collection and/or experience with behavioral implementation of intervention studies.

Experience conducting human subjects research and working on research grants.

Experience supporting and delivering interventions and related research studies in the following areas: underserved populations; minority and urban health; food systems; community-based health behavior interventions; and/or the integration of technology into community outreach and research. Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.

Experience utilizing new technologies and web applications in support of delivering health interventions.

Experience with data cleaning, documentation, and statistical analysis of qualitative and/or quantitative data.

Experience developing and utilizing online survey tools and software (Qualtrics, REDCap).

Experience with website development, including website building and content management (e.g.,WordPress).

Experience synthesizing web analytic results into relevant and strategic improvement recommendations as well as scientific manuscripts.

Experience with data analysis, including sufficient knowledge in statistical tools, and software (Excel, SAS, R, SPSS, NVivo).

Experience with scientific writing, including proposal preparation and writing, developing written reports, and editing manuscripts and documents.

Organization Description: The Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture (IHA) is the world’s first academic institute to bring together precision nutrition, responsive agriculture, and social and behavioral research to reduce diet-related chronic disease and lower health care costs in a way that supports producers and the environment. Composed of three focus areas – Healthy Living, Responsive Agriculture, and Precision Nutrition – the IHA brings together experts across many disciplines, including agriculture; nutrition; behavioral, social and life sciences; engineering; data and computation science; and economics. Healthy Living aims to rapidly apply knowledge from research to the needs of producers and consumers, and conduct dissemination and behavioral implementation research that quickly translates findings from the other two focus areas to the community and producers.

Healthy Living research, led by IHA Associate Director, Dr. Rebecca Seguin-Fowler, focuses on the development, evaluation and dissemination of community-engaged health promotion and chronic disease prevention intervention programs that integrate individual, sociocultural, environmental, and policy/system-level factors.
