| Position Description: |
The Office of Vital Statistics collects mortality, reproductive health, marriage, and divorce information and prepares data from vital records for use in health surveillance, research, and government records management. VRS provides essential services to the Department of Health, Tennessee State Government, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Social Security Administration, and researchers across the country. Projects are dynamic and require regular team member coordination and stakeholder engagement.
Job responsibilities include: • Managing complex data systems and performing routine database administration • Using statistical analysis software, preferably SAS or R, to analyze population and event data • Writing complex programs to analyze and improve data quality • Creating summary reports, fact sheets, and infographics for public health surveillance • Collaborating with other Tennessee Department of Health divisions, as requested • Fulfilling internal and external data requests with effective communication and timely analysis

| Qualifications: |
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics or health informatics. OR: Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a health science, biomedical science or environmental science field with experience equivalent to two years' work experience in epidemiology.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Public Health degree with concentration in biostatistics or epidemiology, or Master's degree in biostatistics, informatics, or data science. Experience or training in event and population data analysis; writing code and preparing analyses in SAS (preferred) or R; familiarity with data visualization applications such as Tableau or R Shiny; Microsoft Office suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe proficiency; effective time management and ability to self-direct multiple, concurrent analyses and deadlines; strong oral communication skills; experience working in a team environment to accomplish division objectives.
