Position Description: Seeking a strong leader with excellent communication and diplomacy skills to manage the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Children and Disasters (COCD) and related disaster management initiatives. This manager will also be responsible for managing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of AAP policy, advocacy and education related to emergency preparedness and disaster management; managing the development of publications related to the topics addressed by the COCD, including policy statements, manuals, professional and caregiver education materials, conference proceedings, etc.; and coordinating the review/approval process of draft policy and other materials and ensure other interested AAP entities provide input as appropriate. Candidates should possess the following: • Bachelor's degree in public health, health care administration, or related field required or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Master’s degree preferred. • At least three years’ related experience in public health program planning and administration, including fiscal/budget responsibility, facilitating collaboration between various partners, editing/drafting correspondence and reports, and developing educational materials/resources, preferably related to disaster management activities. • Experience with technical writing/editing, grants management/writing, pediatric public health issues, and working in a medical association, state public health agency, or national advocacy organization strongly preferred. • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, diplomacy, critical thinking, project management, verbal/written communication skills required. • Must be able to handle a heavy workload, manage multiple priorities simultaneously within established deadlines, work both independently and as part of a team, think creatively, take initiative, pay close attention to details, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, quickly pivot as disaster response needs arise, promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team- oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. • Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with document collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint) and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams) preferred. • Some travel and evening/weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate availability of physicians and other subject matter experts.
