Purpose of Job The purpose of this position is to care for patients being screened, tested, and/or treated for tuberculosis (TB) in the East Region Tuberculosis Program (ERTBP).
Essential Functions The Tuberculosis Nurse Case Manager is responsible for the following essential functions:
Provide tuberculosis (TB) education, counseling, and screening Administer TB skin test and/or perform TB blood test; administer TB medications and provide education related to medications; monitor for side effects
Collect lab specimens consisting of natural sputum and/or sputum induction, blood, urine, or other samples
Determine extent of illness and ascertain period of infectiousness
Provide and manage the care of patients with suspected or confirmed TB infection
Ensure standards of public health practice are met with each TB patient
Assess barriers to care for each TB patient including factors that may influence medication adherence
Coordinate all medical care to reduce fragmented service across multidisciplinary settings
Conduct, supervise, and participate in contact investigations and site visits
Compile case management notes that will be presented to the physician on a weekly basis
Reach out to facilities requesting education related to TB infection
Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours
Perform other duties as required
