Position Description: Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - faculty positions within the university that are not tenure track and not eligible for tenure; on a fixed term contract. Persons with the title of professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, assistant professor-clinical and instructor-clinical. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty department and, as appropriate, regional campus; Clinical faculty are teacher/practitioners and will be engaged primarily in teaching activities. These faculty normally have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field or equivalent experience.

The Ohio State University’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a clinical-track faculty member within our Health Information Management and Systems (HIMS) division at the Professor-Clinical, Associate Professor- Clinical, Assistant Professor-Clinical, or Instructor-Clinical rank. This position consists of an initial 5-year appointment that is renewable based upon annual reviews. We are seeking faculty that will teach within the HIMS program and MS program in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences; mentor students in each program; participate in accreditation activities and teach a variety of courses in support of the HIMS program. Successful candidates must have appropriate educational preparation to teach within our HIMS program. Our clinical faculty have a majority of their time committed to teaching but must have a record of excellence or strong evidence of ability to meet expectations not only as an educator but also a productive scholar, and committed professional. The scholarship of discovery, scholarship of integration, scholarship of application, and scholarship of teaching and learning are all valued forms of scholarship for clinical faculty. The candidate will also teach in the certificate program which are fully online.

Our HIMS accredited bachelor’s degree is a CAHIIM-accredited undergraduate professional program that attracts high quality students and prepares them for careers in healthcare business intelligence, clinical coding, quality improvement and analytics. Traditional students in this degree program are prepared for entry-level healthcare positions as well as to pursue graduate education in a variety of health care professions. The candidate will also teach in the certificate program which are fully online.

Successful candidates must be able to:

teach in-person and online within HIMS; contribute to our graduate programs (MS or PhD) in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences; mentor students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles; contribute to the science of the profession through a focused scholarship program; and contribute high level service to the program, School, College, University and professional organizations. The candidate will undertake 65% teaching, 10 - 25% scholarship,10 - 25% service.

Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements

Required: PhD or other terminal doctoral degree in a healthcare related field; evidence of strong teaching ability, including distance/online; ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Otherwise-qualified applicants who are currently enrolled in a doctoral degree program will be considered for the Clinical Instructor rank.

Desired: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.
