Position Description: THE POSITION The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH), is currently seeking enthusiastic and driven candidates to apply for the position of State Public Health Veterinarian in the DPH Infectious Diseases (ID) Section to serve as the Department's subject matter expert on zoonotic and vector-borne diseases.

This position will oversee the staff in the Epidemiology and Emerging Infections Program (EEIP) as well as the Respiratory Viral Disease Unit. This includes oversight of zoonotic and vector-borne disease activities in the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) and Emerging Infections Program (EIP) cooperative agreements with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which are critical funding sources for the Infectious Disease Section. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Infectious Diseases, who is also the Deputy State Epidemiologist. The State Public Health Veterinarian will be involved in overseeing surveillance activities for the majority of the diseases the Infectious Disease Section is responsible for and will play an integral role in outbreak prevention, control and response for a wide variety of diseases such as Eastern Equine Encephalitis, highly pathogenic avian influenza, tickborne diseases and foodborne diseases.
