Position Description: This is a highly responsible professional within the Public Health Research Unit that requires training, expertise, and experience in public health policy analysis, program evaluation, and statistical analysis. The incumbent will perform data analysis using various sources to increase the knowledge and understanding of patterns and determinants of chronic disease morbidity and mortality, including tobacco-related conditions, maternal and child health indicators, and health risk behaviors. Programs designed to prevent, reduce, and control chronic diseases will also be analyzed and evaluated using epidemiologic and statistical techniques along with other evaluation and analytic methods.

Designs and implements epidemiologic studies using the Prenatal Risk Assessment Maternal Survey (PRAMS) data, Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data, Florida Youth Survey (FYS) and Florida Youth Tobacco Survey (FYTS) data, and other data sources.

Develops epidemiologic annual reports, special reports, and fact sheets for publications.

Participates in epidemiologic studies in the Public Health Research Unit by conducting analyses of various data including survey, mortality, and hospital discharge data.

Responds to data analysis inquiries regarding PRAMS, FYS/FYTS, and BRFSS data from county health departments, other offices in the Department of Health, and the public.

Consults and collaborates with DOH staff, researchers at other state agencies, and universities on projects using data on chronic diseases, environmental hazards, social determinants of health, and behavioral risk factors.

Participates on CDC and other national and state workgroups and committees as required.

Makes presentations at meetings, conferences, and other venues.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Minimum – Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Statistics, or similar fields; experience with statistical analysis using software such as SAS, SUDAAN, R, SPSS, etc.

Preferred – Master’s degree in Public Health, Statistics, or similar field; experience with statistical analysis using software such as SAS, SUDAAN, R, SPSS, etc. Experience and familiarity with disease prevention and health promotion programs; effectively communicate in both written and verbal forms; work independently, prioritize and organize work assignments and work under pressure.
