The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH) has an anticipated opening for the position of Public Health Section Chief to our Environmental Health Section (EHS). This position will report directly to a Public Health Branch Chief. The mission of the EHS is to prevent illness or disease that may be caused by environmental threats and to reduce or eliminate harmful environmental exposures. This is accomplished by applying science and regulation to assess and minimize risk and by providing data, information, and education about health and the environment.

SECTION: Environmental Health Section (EHS) ADDRESS: 410 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT WORK HOURS: Full-time, first shift, 40 hours per week SCHEDULE: Typical work schedule of Monday through Friday *Hybrid work schedule may be available. Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Directing the professional staff and operations of environmental health programs at the section level. Leading innovation among teams to address data system modernization and adopt new programmatic initiatives. Leading change to adopt renewed public health efforts working with program supervision and the executive leadership team. Developing programmatic strategic workplans, adopting program measures, and ensuring implementation of action items. Coordinating, planning, and managing section- wide initiatives and overseeing the implementation of department-wide initiatives, policies, and procedures. Redeveloping and renewing pertinent laws and regulations. Determining appropriate procedures for ensuring quality assurance for programs and performance standards for staff. Obtaining state and federal funds to maintain and implement environmental health programs and directing staff in cultivating new sources of funds to expand initiatives. Working with federal agencies, other states, regional, and national associations for program development. Maintaining good working relationships with individuals both within and outside of the department who might have input or impact on environmental health policies, programs, or regulatory activities. Reviewing and evaluating legislative proposals and reports on environmental health issues. Directing the preparation of surveillance data reports, investigatory reports, reports of regulatory actions, environmental health education campaigns, and required federal reports. Directing section and program responses to media inquiries. Representing the department to professional and lay groups on environmental health topics and overseeing the preparation of articles for publication on environmental health issues. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in an organization with programmatic and/or regulatory responsibilities for promoting or protecting public health.

NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Health Program Supervisor, Supervising Nurse Consultant, Child Care Licensing Supervisor, Epidemiologist 4, Environmental Protection Supervising Environmental Analyst, Supervising Environmental Engineer or Supervising Environmental Sanitarian. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED One (1) year of experience as a Public Health Services Manager may be substituted for the General Experience.
