Position Description: A fellowship opportunity is currently available with the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response (OPHPR) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The research participant will perform research as part of public health preparedness and response projects with the Extramural Research Program Office (ERPO).

The research participant will collaborate with ERPO and other OPHPR staff on multiple projects related to research strategies and scientific impact in the area of public health preparedness, response, and recovery. He/She will participate in and assist with activities to engage public health officials and preparedness partners to address program work. Participant activities may include the following: •Reviewing literature and gathering information to document examples of how research in this field has improved PH emergency response or led to better outcomes following events. •Developing and supporting various evaluation activities related to assessing the value and impact of research programs for OPHPR. •Supporting the further development/refinement of a practice-driven research agenda for OPHPR. •Maintaining and updating a database of research-based policy and practice interventions for public health preparedness and response. •Developing translation products for stakeholders. •Supporting/contributing to intramural projects as the need arises.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

Qualifications: •Masters or Doctoral degree in public health, social sciences, or related field within five years of the appointment start date.

•Doctoral degree preferred. •Prior experience conducting public health/social science research or evaluation is required. •Experience in or knowledge of issues in public health preparedness and response is strongly preferred. •Applicants for this opportunity should have an interest in public health emergency preparedness and response and work with public health practitioners at state, territorial, local and tribal public health agencies and partner organizations. •This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate with strong evaluation and public health research program skills to gain experience with CDC.
