Purpose of Job
The purpose of this classification is to provide clerical and administrative support to an assigned department.
Essential Functions
The Health Services Clerk is responsible for the following essential functions:
Greets office visitors, ascertaining needs of client in relation to agency services provided
Answers telephone, provides information, and refers callers to other agencies or departments when necessary
Creates new patient electronic health records for proper clinical service
Obtains specified information from patient, such as age, insurance coverage, and symptoms, and enters information onto prescribed forms or computer database
Enters patient information into computer and prints a daily encounter audit showing detailed statistical information for reporting purposes; such as, patient treatment
Prints receipts from computer for cash received and patient services ledger for patient use
Prints daily cash drawer report for clinic, showing monies receipted
Counts checks and cash; submits encounter audit, receipt copies, cash drawer printout, encounter forms, and cash to Accounting Department at end of each day
Documents dental records and other records as required
Orders office supplies as needed; prepares outgoing mail for mailing
Uses computer to schedule, cancel, follows up on missed appointments; calls to remind patients of their appointments
Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours
Perform other duties as required
