Position Description: Position Description: The Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Program within the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP) division of the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is currently seeking an Epidemiologist 1 position. This position is currently funded from year to year through CDC cooperative agreements (grants). Some in-state and out of state travel is required.

The Epidemiologist 1 will serve as an Epidemiologist within the HAI/AR program’s Multidrug-resistant Organism (MDRO) Prevention Program. This position will work closely with the MDRO Prevention Coordination Lead and will participate in all activities related to the MDRO Prevention Program. Activities included but are not limited to recruitment of healthcare facilities into the MDRO prevention program for preventative-based onsite infection prevention visits and point prevalence surveys, management, and implementation of the new Antibiotic Resistance Information Exchange System (ARIES) and using data to drive statewide MDRO prevention efforts.

This Epidemiologist 1 will also participate in the HAI/AR outbreak team which will include leading outbreak and infection control breach investigations. This position will additionally conduct statewide surveillance into other HAI conditions as required and will participate in Emerging Infections Program (EIP) projects.

Job duties will include: • Perform programmatic project management activities related to the HAI/AR program’s MDRO Prevention Program • Monitor, collect, and analyze MDRO data and present trends on statewide calls • Foster relationships with infection preventionists at long-term care facilities • Participate in grant development, writing, administration, and monitoring to ensure compliance with grant requirements • Participate in HAI- and MDRO-related projects, including an Emerging Infections Program (EIP) point prevalence study of HAIs and antimicrobial use, onsite and remote validation of HAI data, and other special projects as needed. • Support HAI prevention collaboratives for healthcare facilities across the state • Lead and participate in outbreak investigations

Additional Information: The Epidemiologist 1 is a contractual position. Salary dependent on education and experience. No relocation assistance is available.

Qualifications: Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, or health informatics.

OR:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a health science, biomedical science, or environmental science field with experience equivalent to two years' work experience in epidemiology.

Desired Qualifications: • Experience writing statistical and analytical programming code in SAS or R • Experience in MS Office, Excel, Access • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Experience with developing data visualizations using Tableau • Experience developing, maintaining, and entering and extracting data from REDCap databases • Background in infectious disease epidemiology

The HAI/AR team at the TDH is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, data-driven team that works very closely with external partners such as the CDC, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Prevention, the Tennessee Hospital Association, the Tennessee Center for Patient Safety, CMS QIN-QIO, the Tennessee Pharmacists Association, End Stage Renal Disease Network 8, the Tennessee Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, and the Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care.
