Position Description: |
This position performs professional environmental health work in the promotion of public health education, surveillance, consultation, inspection, and enforcement of state, local, and federal environmental health laws and regulations in the On-site Wastewater, Drinking Water Wells, Tattooing and Public Swimming Pool programs. Primary job duties include site and soil evaluations of undeveloped property for on-site wastewater systems and wells; evaluation and inspection of existing on-site wastewater systems and drinking water wells; issuance of on-site wastewater permits, drinking water well permits, tattoo permits, public swimming pool permits; inspections of on-site wastewater system installations, drinking water well installations, tattoo artist, and public swimming pools.

Qualifications: |
Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree from a program that is accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC); OR a Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree in public health and one year of experience in the field of environmental health practice; OR Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in the physical, biological, natural, life, or health sciences and one year of experience in the field of environmental health practice.. All health department employees (with the exception of individuals with an accommodation or medical exemption) are required to receive an annual flu vaccine as a condition of employment. An appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of NC is required and must be maintained. Applicants must be eligible to become registered as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Registered Environmental Health Intern with the NC State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialist Examiners.
