Position Description: |
Provides onsite and/or offsite (remote) supervision of nurses and/or multidisciplinary staff within the assigned program. Responsible for direction, training, and continuous assessment of nurses and/or multidisciplinary staff. Manages day-to-day activities and develops long term plans for the assigned program or area to ensure quality and timeliness of work according to established guidelines. Will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to identify best practices and lessons learned for quality assurance and quality improvement purposes. May participate in budgeting, statistical reporting, and other activities in connection with program administration.
The Communicable Disease Nurse Supervisor is responsible for cultivating and leading a high-performing team of public health nurses. This role demands exceptional leadership and coaching skills to empower staff, fostering a culture of ownership and accountability. Key responsibilities include: - Team Development: Building and maintaining a cohesive team through effective recruitment, training, and mentorship. - Performance Optimization: Setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and implementing strategies to enhance staff performance. - Conflict Management: Resolving disputes efficiently and equitably to maintain a positive work environment. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of inspiring and motivating teams to achieve exceptional results.
All Registered Nurses employed by the Mecklenburg County Health Department are Public Health Nurses. Public Health Nurses, regardless of official title or classification, may provide nursing services during urgent and/or emergent public health events. These services include, but are not limited to, administration of immunizations for various ages and groups, mass medication distribution, and provision of health services in shelter environments.

Qualifications: |
Experience: Minimum of five years of nursing experience in area directly related to area of assignment.
Education: Graduate from an accredited/approved nursing education program. BSN is required for School Health Nurse Supervisor positions.

Licenses and Certifications • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in NC issued by the NC Board of Nursing or another Nurse Licensure Compact State • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association that is valid for at least 90 days after hire. Maintenance of this certification is required and as funds are available may be supported as part of employment. • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License • Requires County Driving Privileges • May require an Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required • For Nurse Supervisor (School Health): National Certification for School Nurses (NCSN) required or within 3 years of hire; maintenance of certification required. Annual Mecklenburg County Human Resource background screening required.
Preferred Qualifications • One (1) year of lead nurse, charge nurse or other supervisory type experience preferred. • Bachelor’s degree preferred for Nurse; Nurse Supervisor positions in other program areas: • Bachelor's degree with five years of relevant nursing experience preferred. • If ADN, seven years of relevant nursing experience preferred
