Position Description: The Department of Public Health Sciences at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure-track position in public health at the early career assistant professor level to begin Fall 2025. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Public Health with an emphasis in any area of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The Department is seeking candidates with research and teaching interests in epidemiology, biostatistics, computer applications, and research methods.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research with graduate students. Teaching responsibilities include epidemiology, biostatistics, computer applications, qualitative and quantitative analysis. Our faculty members are active scholars, who lead externally funded research and community projects. Applications are encouraged from applicants with a strong background in any current or emerging areas of epidemiology and biostatistics, with research interests in areas such as health equity, health disparities, maternal and child health, minority health, aging, chronic disease. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from HBCU and underrepresented backgrounds, minimizing barriers and increasing equity and completion rates between members of different demographic groups.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Public Health or related doctorate with an emphasis in any area of Epidemiology or Biostatistics (conferred by the time of appointment); Ability to develop and teach face-to-face as well as online classes; Strong commitment to teaching 3-3 graduate teaching load; Demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring graduate HBCU students are essential; Commitment to academic advising for majors within the department; Conduct ongoing, independent research resulting in scholarly publications or successful grant proposals; Established record of research productivity, proportional to experience, in an area mentioned above; Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with HBCU and diverse student population; and Write and Speak English proficiently.

Preferred Qualitifications Advanced training beyond the Ph.D., e.g. Post-doc; Successful experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in public health with an emphasis in any area of Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Successful experience teaching public health to HBCU and diverse student body and knowledge of effective strategies (e.g. culturally responsive or inclusive pedagogy, awareness of issues that may affect the success of minoritized students) supporting underrepresented groups; Awareness of pedagogical best practices and ongoing commitment to developing and maintaining knowledge in this area; A research project that complements existing department and community research; Experience recruiting graduate students from diverse backgrounds; and Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana.
