Position Description: Position Summary Provides onsite and/or offsite (remote) supervision of nurses and/or multidisciplinary staff within the assigned program. Responsible for direction, training, and continuous assessment of nurses and/or multidisciplinary staff. Manages day-to-day activities and develops long term plans for the assigned program or area to ensure quality and timeliness of work according to established guidelines. Will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to identify best practices and lessons learned for quality assurance and quality improvement purposes. May participate in budgeting, statistical reporting, and other activities in connection with program administration.

The Communicable Disease Nurse Supervisor is responsible for cultivating and leading a high-performing team of public health nurses. This role demands exceptional leadership and coaching skills to empower staff, fostering a culture of ownership and accountability. Key responsibilities include: - Team Development: Building and maintaining a cohesive team through effective recruitment, training, and mentorship. - Performance Optimization: Setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and implementing strategies to enhance staff performance. - Conflict Management: Resolving disputes efficiently and equitably to maintain a positive work environment. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of inspiring and motivating teams to achieve exceptional results.

All Registered Nurses employed by the Mecklenburg County Health Department are Public Health Nurses. Public Health Nurses, regardless of official title or classification, may provide nursing services during urgent and/or emergent public health events. These services include, but are not limited to, administration of immunizations for various ages and groups, mass medication distribution, and provision of health services in shelter environments.

Essential Functions • Maintain communication between governing boards, medical staff, and department heads by attending meetings and coordinating interdepartmental functioning. • Review and analyze facility activities and data to aid planning, risk management and to improve service utilization. • Establish work schedules and assignments for staff, according to workload, space, and equipment availability. • Maintain awareness of advances in medicine, computerized diagnostic and treatment equipment, data processing technology, government regulations, health insurance changes, and financing options. • Prepare activity reports to inform management of the status and implementation plans of programs, services, and quality initiatives. • Manages change in integrated health care delivery systems, such as work restructuring, technological innovations, and shifts in the focus of care. • Consult with medical, business, and community groups to discuss service problems, respond to community needs, enhance public relations, coordinate activities and plans, and promote health programs. • Develop instructional materials and conducts in-service and community-based educational programs. • If assigned in Community Programs: • Plan, implement and administer programs and services. • Conduct recruitment, hiring, and ensure training of personnel. • Utilize computerized record management systems to store and process data and to produce reports. • Contribute to organizational policies and procedures, and implements medical programs or health services that promote research, rehabilitation, and community health. • If assigned in Clinics: • Assist with conducting and administering fiscal operations, including accounting, planning budgets, authorizing expenditures, establishing rates for services, and coordinating financial reporting. • Plan, implement, and administer programs and services in a healthcare or medical facility, including personnel administration, training, and coordination of medical, nursing, and physical plant staff. • Participate in, direct, or conduct recruitment, hiring, and training of personnel. • Monitor the use of staff and/or diagnostic services, inpatient beds, and facilities to ensure effective use of resources and assess the need for additional staff, equipment, and services. • Develop and maintain computerized record management systems to store and process data such as client encounters, personnel activities, and information, and to produce reports. • Establish objectives and evaluative or operational criteria for units they manage. • Develop and implement organizational policies and procedures for the facility or medical unit. • Mecklenburg County Health Department Employees: Responds in cases of urgent and/or emergent events that require public health interventions. Employees may be trained for and assigned duties unrelated to their regular work; work outside normal business hours and workdays and/or in a different work location may be required. Emergency events include, but are not limited to, communicable disease outbreaks, severe weather situations (e.g. snow or ice storms, tornados, hurricanes), natural disasters (e.g. earthquakes), fire, or power outages, and acts of terrorism.

Computer Skills • Intermediate use in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite • Knowledge and ability to work with computer applications, including the internet, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum of five years of nursing experience in area directly related to area of assignment.

Education: Graduate from an accredited/approved nursing education program. BSN is required for School Health Nurse Supervisor positions.

Licenses and Certifications • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in NC issued by the NC Board of Nursing or another Nurse Licensure Compact State • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association that is valid for at least 90 days after hire. Maintenance of this certification is required and as funds are available may be supported as part of employment. • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License • Requires County Driving Privileges • May require an Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required • For Nurse Supervisor (School Health): National Certification for School Nurses (NCSN) required or within 3 years of hire; maintenance of certification required. Annual Mecklenburg County Human Resource background screening required.

Preferred Qualifications • One (1) year of lead nurse, charge nurse or other supervisory type experience preferred. • Bachelor’s degree preferred for Nurse; Nurse Supervisor positions in other program areas: • Bachelor's degree with five years of relevant nursing experience preferred. • If ADN, seven years of relevant nursing experience preferred
