Additional Qualifications Responsibilities: Tenure track faculty in the Department of Applied Health Science are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cutting-edge research in modern public health science both as a corresponding principal investigator and a collaborating investigator; teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level as designated by the department chairperson; and actively providing service internally to the department, school and university and externally to the profession and/or the community. Although candidates with specific areas of focus in opioids and addictions research are particularly encouraged to apply, all research areas related to health will be considered, with preference given to research that is collaborative, synergistic with other SPH-B and Indiana University faculty, and that aligns with major funding priorities. This position is located on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington (IUB) in Bloomington, Indiana, and successful candidates are expected to work on the IUB campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations upon performance in three areas including research, teaching, and service. All individuals hired through this initiative are expected to excel in research and provide strong performance in teaching and service.

The School of Public Health-Bloomington is located in the heart of the Indiana University Bloomington campus and comprises five collaborative academic departments with over 300 faculty and staff, including one of the most diverse faculties of any school of public health in the nation, with 39% of current tenure-track/tenured faculty members being scholars from traditionally underrepresented minority groups.

Indiana University provides SPH-B faculty outstanding teaching and research support through programs like the IU Faculty Academy on Excellence in Teaching (F.A.C.E.T.); extensive research development and research administrative support through the Office of the Vice President for Research; and innovative collaborations with organizations like the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, the IU School of Medicine (IUSM) and Regenstrief Institute’s Center for Aging Research, and the IUSM’s Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, and the IU Bloomington’s Environmental Resilience Institute.
