Position Description: |
The Entomology Branch (EB), Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria (DPDM), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a Title 5 Term Limited FTE/Senior Service Fellowship position (Title 42) as an Entomologist or Biologist, GS-13. EB promotes public health practice and conducts vector research to control and eliminate vector borne diseases globally in collaboration with partner health departments and ministries, academic researchers, and other US Government agencies.
Specific duties will include: a. Work with USAID and CDC in support of malaria control and elimination efforts. b. Identify key research questions to address vector control and surveillance and perform studies to answer those questions. Research activities may include developing protocols, analyzing study data, and collaborating on disseminating study results through scientific journals and public presentations. c. Integrate entomological and epidemiological approaches to understand the dynamics of vector borne disease systems to inform vector control decision making d. Provide subject matter expertise and direct technical oversight and assistance regarding vector control and elimination to country health departments, ministries, and other partners. International travel is required (approximately 30-50%) French language is preferred but not required.

Qualifications: |
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. GS-12: Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or possess an equivalent combination of graduate level education and experience. Graduate education must be directly related to the work of the position and must have equipped applicants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for the GS-12 level of this position are: Producing scientific publications as the primary author or contributor that fill in gaps related to vectors of parasitic diseases. Experience planning, conducting, and reporting research to control of vectors of public health importance. Being recognized through citation as a contributor to projects, or peer-reviewed publications in the identified fields of research.
