Position Description: |
Highly visible leadership position within the McHenry County Department of Health responsible for the planning, directing, evaluating, budgeting, and policy development of a comprehensive public health nursing program. Serves as the Department’s HIPAA Privacy Officer. Reports to the Public Health Administrator. Upholds the mission, vision and values of the Department.
Plans, directs and manages staff, resources, and activities across a variety of programs including communicable disease control, tuberculosis, immunization, and maternal child health. Uses public health nursing practice standards and evidence-based approaches to address population health needs and reduce health disparities. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and licensing requirements.
Serves as subject matter expert for the department on all matters pertaining to public health nursing. Makes recommendations about critical public health issues to the Public Health Administrator. Develops strategic solutions to the operations and functions within the division. Collaborates with other divisions, departments, and key stakeholders to support the community health improvement plan and health department initiatives. Collects, analyzes and interprets relevant data to evaluate programs and drive decisions. Participates in ongoing quality improvement. Provides oversight of division budget and program grants, including grant applications and reporting.

Qualifications: |
Master’s degree in nursing, public health or related field. Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. Current and active license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Illinois Board of Nursing.
Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in nursing, preferably in a local health department setting. Strong understanding of public health principles, epidemiology, health promotion, financial management and budgeting, policy development, data analysis, grant writing, and emergency preparedness. Knowledge of federal, state, and local public health policies and regulations.
