| Position Description: |
The Department of Global, Environmental, and Occupational Health (GEOH) (formerly the Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health) within the University of Maryland, School of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track). The successful candidate will be expected to build and lead an independent research program, teach and mentor students, and provide service to the university and profession.
GEOH includes a diverse group of 50 tenure- track/tenured and professional-track faculty focused on impactful research, scholarship, training, practice and community engagement across a number of domains including: airborne infectious disease transmission; climate change and health; water quality, water reuse and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); environmental justice; cumulative environmental health risks; occupational health; air and dietary contaminants; and One Health.
The department offers six academic degree programs: a new BS in Global Health (launched in Fall 2024); a new Environmental Justice Specialization (launched in Fall 2024) within a BS in Environmental Science & Policy (in collaboration with our College of Agriculture & Natural Resources); an MPH with a concentration in Environmental Health Sciences; an MS and PhD in Environmental Health Sciences; and a post baccalaureate certificate in Global Health.
Salary and appointment date: This will be a 9- month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The 9-month salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and will range from $100,000 to $115,000 for Assistant Professors and $120,000 to $140,000 for Associate Professors. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to bring in summer salary (equal to 33% of the 9-month salary) from external grants and/or summer teaching. The University of Maryland offers a comprehensive benefits package. Appointment begins in the fall of 2025.

| Qualifications: |
Applicants must possess a doctorate in Environmental Health Sciences, Environmental Epidemiology or a closely related field. If the doctorate is not conferred by a School of Public Health, then the applicant should also possess a Master of Public Health degree or equivalent public health experience. Assistant Professor applicants should demonstrate potential for outstanding scholarship and extramural funding. Associate Professor applicants should demonstrate a proven ability to obtain extramural funding and lead a successful research program. Applicants should also have teaching experience using inclusive pedagogies; and demonstrate a commitment to working with a diverse body of students in a mentoring role. While consideration will be given to all areas of environmental health specialization, preference will be given to applicants whose scholarship lies in the following areas: environmental health policy, environmental justice, environmental epidemiology, cumulative risk assessment, or climate change and health.
