| Position Description: |
Plans, organizes and supervises the work of staff in an assigned program; selects, assigns, trains, and evaluates assigned staff; provides guidance and direction on a variety of nursing issues. Works with community groups in the development of health services and educational programs; coordinates assigned program services; reviews new and pending legislation and regulations to assess impact to program and recommend changes. Conducts orientations and in-service training for program providers, new program staff, and other public health program staff. Assists with the preparation and revision of public health program plans and/or budgets; may recommend revisions to interagency agreements as necessary; may prepare and administer grants and funding requests; collects data and maintains records, insuring confidentiality of medical information; develops information and prepares reports. Insures proper patient follow-up and counseling for clients referred for further diagnosis and treatment; may plan and conduct Public Health clinics. Provides public health nursing education and health counseling services in connection with the control and prevention of disease and adverse health conditions in community health programs through home visits, schools, clinics, conferences, and family health counseling. Interviews patients and takes case histories; gives prescribed treatments; records data; makes nursing assessments to determine client needs and priorities within the context of the family; performs case management to meet client health and psychosocial needs; performs appropriate client/family teaching, counseling, and referral to other agencies; consults with schools, individuals and community agencies. Provides health related information to clients, family members, providers, social worker/case managers and others; researches health issues; serves as a special resource on health problems and issues related to an assigned program. Attends meeting and conferences to maintain current information on public health programs and issues.

| Qualifications: |
License: Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California; possession of a valid California driver’s license, if required by the nature of the assignment. Certificate: Possession of a California State Public Health Nursing Certificate. Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible, post-bachelor’s degree nursing experience, including two years of community- based nursing in a community health, public school, county public health, or comparable setting that included work in areas such as communicable disease response/prevention, health education, public health emergency planning, or community-based nursing case management.
