Position Description: |
The Department of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position (Assistant Professor or Associate Professor) in infectious disease epidemiology. We particularly welcome applications from those with expertise in population-based infectious disease research, emerging infections, pathogen transmission, genomic surveillance, clinical management of infectious disease, or infection prevention. The Department is dedicated to infectious disease epidemiology as a primary focus area with numerous core resources suited to diverse types of infectious diseases research, and a Certificate in Emerging Infectious Disease Epidemiology. Outstanding collaboration between our faculty and the faculty from the health sciences and other colleges at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University is a hallmark of the Department. The faculty member should be eligible for the rank of assistant professor to associate professor, depending upon experience and record of research productivity.
The Department provides a strong infrastructure for clinical, translational, and etiologic infectious diseases research. Examples include working with our State Hygienic Laboratory headquartered on the University of Iowa's Research Park for research involving Next Generation sequencing in surveillance of infectious diseases; collaborating with our Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, particularly for research on zoonotic disease; the Environmental Health Sciences Research Center; and collaborating with the Veterans Rural Health Resource Center and Rural Telehealth Research Center on strategies for improving care for people with infectious diseases in rural settings. Other pertinent resources include the Department’s Health Effectiveness Research Center and PCORnet®, the national clinical research network; Iowa Health Care infection prevention network; and the diverse laboratories of our secondary and collaborating faculty. At the State level, Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Center for Acute Disease Epidemiology and Iowa State One Health programs are important collaborators.
