Position Description: |
Position Description The University of Rochester invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Public Health within the Program in Public Health-Related Majors. We are particularly interested in candidates whose expertise focuses on the social determinants of health, with a foundation in anthropological, sociological, or social psychological perspectives. This position will play a vital role in advancing the program's interdisciplinary mission, offering systematic and critical approaches to understanding health and healthcare through diverse academic lenses.
The Program in Public Health-Related Majors serves undergraduate students and encompasses five distinct majors: (1) Bioethics, (2) Environmental Health, (3) Epidemiology, (4) Health Policy, and (5) Health, Behavior, and Society. Annually, the program graduates approximately 50 students who are prepared to address complex health challenges through multifaceted and innovative approaches.
With satisfactory progress, the position may be renewed on an ongoing basis.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach three courses per academic year: A broad introductory course in public health A course in global health A specialized course in public health based on the lecturer’s area of expertise Collaborate with two other faculty members to support the community-engaged internship program that runs over both semesters. Responsibilities include: Teaching undergraduates skills for working effectively with community organizations, including participating as needed in the weekly seminar for the interns Maintaining and cultivating strong relationships with community groups in the Rochester are Supervising students working with specific groups Advise undergraduate students majoring in Health, Behavior, and Society, providing academic mentorship and career guidance. Serve as a member of the Steering Committee for the program Contribute to the program’s mission through service activities and fostering a culture of inclusivity and collaboration. Qualifications: |
Qualifications A PhD in Public Health, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Psychology, or a closely related field, awarded by the start of employment. Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate level, with a commitment to inclusive pedagogy and student engagement. Strong expertise in the social determinants of health, global health, and community-based research. Experience working with community organizations and developing community partnerships is highly desirable. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
