Position Description: |
This position contributes to the overall goal of preventing sexually transmitted infections in the state of Tennessee by leading special surveillance projects. In 2024, the TDH STI program was awarded funding to become a Cycle 5 CDC STI Surveillance Network (SSuN) site. TDH was funded to conduct enhanced surveillance for gonorrhea and syphilis. This project period is 5 years. With this funding we will add a contract epidemiologist to our program to coordinate the SSuN project and key gonorrhea surveillance activities.
Essential Job Tasks Disease Surveillance and Investigation • Serve as the Project Coordinator for the TN STI Surveillance Network (SSuN) site. • Create revised gonorrhea questionnaire to accommodate SSuN enhanced surveillance questions. • Serve as the lead for gonorrhea surveillance in TN. • Draft surveillance system changes to incorporate new data elements. • Create REDCap databases to support project needs. • Manage data extraction, cleaning, and transmission to CDC. • Oversee SSuN interview and data collection activities through a combination of monitoring centralized and regional interviewers. • Design gonorrhea and syphilis sampling strategy and work with STI surveillance and informatics staff to implement randomized sampling of incoming gonorrhea and syphilis investigations. • Develop evaluation and monitoring plan including monitoring timeliness, outcome, and completeness of patient interviews. • Research and implement innovative interview and partner services strategies, such as virtual/telehealth interviews, or improved internet partner services efforts. • Complete all grant deliverables including metrics reporting and managing annual grant reapplication.
Planning, Coordination, and Information Sharing • Lead the writing of SSuN grant progress reports, work plans, and narratives. • Participate in monthly and quarterly CDC SSuN calls and annual in person meetings. • Work with regional and centralized staff to ensure implementation of enhanced interviews for sampled patients. • Share project updates during team meetings.

Qualifications: |
Minimum qualifications - A masters or MPH in epidemiology or biostatistics plus 5 years of epidemiology experience at the state or local level OR a doctorate in epidemiology or public health and 2 years of epidemiology experience. - Proficiency in at least one statistical analysis software (SAS, R, SPSS). - Project management experience.
Preferred qualifications - Experience with and knowledge of the epidemiology of sexually transmitted infections. - Disease intervention training or experience. - Proficiency in SQL, SAS, or R. - Proficiency in REDCap. - Experience with using NBS for STIs.
