Position Description: Duties Include: Oversees the design and utilization of databases for analysis of health problems to assess the potential public health impact; oversees the designs of instruments for the collection of disease or condition surveillance information and data; during surge events, assists the Disease Containment team to plan, conduct, and direct epidemiological studies and urgent outbreak investigations, including on-site review of facilities and procedures, interviews patients, physicians, nurses and others involved, and collects data from local agencies. Develops and conducts epidemiological studies for program evaluation and planning and to address important and practical public health problems; develops methods for and conducts advanced descriptive and comprehensive analyses (e.g., data weighting programs, multivariable methods, etc.) of surveillance data for use in grant applications, program fact sheets, news releases, reports, and for strategic planning; conducts and oversees literature reviews for program preparation of publications and for planning and evaluation.

Designs, prepares, and reviews reports from analyses of surveillance data, literature reviews, and other information; makes oral presentations on results of data analyses and other information to diverse audiences; reviews and prepares responses to requests for information; develops and provides recommendations to leaders regarding community health strategies and interventions to prevent and control disease and injury problems based on the results of surveillance, field investigations, laboratory tests; participates in writing grants and other funding proposals with respect to surveillance, epidemiology, and program evaluation; reviews applications for scientific integrity and accuracy.

Designs research methodology; reviews and conducts literature reviews and data analyses to evaluate program progress and effectiveness; directs county program planning efforts with respect to surveillance and other epidemiological data and evaluation; provides and reviews technical assistance to communities and outside partners with respect to surveillance and other epidemiological data and evaluation; develops requests for proposals and contracts for data analysis and evaluation projects; directs and reviews contract work.

Oversees the work of Epidemiologists and Public Health Specialists by creating and reviewing work assignments, establishing priorities, coordinating activities, and resolving related work problems; conducts Pillars of Performance and Development (PPD) check-ins; participates in the selection and assignment of epidemiology and other professional staff; works as a liaison to outside data holders to develop and maintain data sharing and utilization partnerships; formulates procedures, and plans for existing and new subprograms in epidemiological control and assessment. Responsible for budget planning and tracking for the Epidemiology Division.

Supports the organization's vision and mission in all programs and activities; uses performance measures to evaluate and improve epidemiology program effectiveness to assist with promoting ethical conduct in epidemiologic practice; helps to lead and participates in department strategic planning efforts; prepares for emergency response and fosters collaborations, strong partnerships, and team-building to accomplish epidemiology program objectives.

Qualifications: Required: 1)Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science degree in public health (MSPH) with a focus in epidemiology or relevant field. 2)Five years of experience in epidemiology in a public health, academic or relevant setting. 3) One (1) year leading, directing, supervising, or coordinating the work of others required. 4)Current driver's licenses from state of residency and acceptable driving record.

Preferred: 1)Epidemiology or Other non-epidemiology Doctorate in a relevant field of study. 2)Two years of formal experience supervising the work of others.
