Position Description: |
The Outreach and Strategic Partnerships Specialist supports the day-to-day operations for the American Kidney Fund’s (AKF) outreach programs and initiatives that are designed to educate and raise awareness of kidney disease, its associated risks, and address related health disparities. Responsibilities will revolve around supporting the planning, execution and evaluation of key initiatives such as Kidney Health Coach, Kidney Health for All and various outreach projects. This position will work collaboratively with internal departments and with external partner representatives. These programs are intended to engage the public and health professionals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Assists the Associate Director of Outreach and Strategic Partnerships (OSP) in the delivery of outreach, education and prevention programs and projects for people most at-risk for kidney disease, kidney disease patients, transplant recipients, caregivers & families and health professionals. • Supports the Kidney Health Coach (KHC) program and the implementation of the strategic plan, coordinating continuing education accreditation, providing technical support, coordinating material fulfillment, data tracking and reports, quarterly learning collaboratives, Facebook group, online portal, and quarterly newsletters. • Provides administrative support for the KHC Health Equity Grants including development and dissemination of applications, grant review process, award notifications and disbursements, progress reports and meetings, and grantee tracking. • Coordinates logistical details for the KHC Advisory Council including schedules for meetings, taking meeting minutes, creating agendas, assisting with slide development, tracking member responsibilities and requirements and ensuring member information is up to date. • Supports the Associate Director and Director in formative research including literature reviews, needs assessments, environmental scans, interviews and focus groups. • Collects ongoing data from programs and, with Associate Director, analyzes and creates regular reports to provide supportive metrics toward programmatic enhancements. • Assists Associate Director in identifying and cultivating relationships with regional and national partners to increase the impact of AKF initiatives related to kidney disease and health disparities. • Provides support for all planned outreach activities, including small- and large-scale events, exhibits, and conferences. • Coordinates with outside vendors and contractors to design graphics, develop content, coordinate material fulfillment and translate materials into Spanish within established timeframes and budget parameters. • Delivers educational presentations to constituents, partners, and the public to increase awareness about AKF and the programs and services available to the community. • Provides administrative support for other programmatic activities as needed. • Occasional out of town travel required (10-15%).

Qualifications: |
• Bachelor’s degree in health-related or behavioral science field required in public health, health education, health promotion, community health, behavioral sciences, or related discipline. • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in nonprofit sector or another professional environment. • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of health disparities on chronic disease prevalence among communities of color, specifically in relation to diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease. • Knowledge of health literacy principles, plain language standards, cultural competency, behavior change theory, and essentials of project management preferred. • Must have excellent research and communication skills (verbal and written). • Must be well-organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to successfully manage several deliverables simultaneously to meet varying deadlines. • Experience communicating with various levels of professionals through both verbal and written correspondence. • Certifications in CPH, CHES, or MCHES a plus. • Strong project and program management skills a plus. • Bilingual in English/Spanish strongly preferred. • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office required. • Demonstrated ability to be highly flexible, provide exemplary customer service, and work independently and in a team environment. • Valid driver's license required, with dependable transportation. • Ability to work evening and weekend hours for outreach events. • Ability to lift materials and boxes up to 30 lbs. • Position is located in the AKF National office in Rockville, MD.
