Position Description: The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH)’s Division of Family Health and Wellness is hiring a Public Health Analyst for the Tennessee Lung and Colorectal Screening Program (TLCSP). This position will support lung and colorectal cancer prevention and control efforts in Tennessee by conducting a landscape analysis that will produce actionable recommendations to strengthen health systems, community engagement, and accessibility in lung and colorectal cancer prevention across the state.

Responsibilities include: • Prepare a comprehensive plan for conducting the landscape analysis. • Develop a qualitative study and obtain approval through the TDH Institutional Review Board (IRB) as needed o Work with TLCSP staff to identify main research objectives. o Identify and engage partners and community members, which may include but are not limited to individuals representing primary care, specialties in pulmonology or gastroenterology, oncology, gastrointestinal and cardiothoracic surgery, lung and colorectal cancer survivors, community resource organizations catering to support for these cancers, faith-based leaders, or other community leaders with a strong passion related to this work. o Design and conduct interviews, focus groups, and/or surveys to gather qualitative data on barriers, facilitators, and opportunities in cancer control, specifically related to lung and colorectal cancer. Occasional travel may be required to conduct in-person assessments, for which in-state travel will be reimbursed. o Maintain strict research integrity by following all applicable state, federal, and institutional guidelines for conducting the study. • Work with TLCSP epidemiology staff to perform appropriate quantitative and qualitative analyses to identify disease burdens, disparities, gaps in service, current facilitators, success stories, etc. • Identify and synthesize existing research, quantitative data, and qualitative study findings to make policies, systems, and environmental change recommendations to improve cancer prevention, screening, and early detection. • Produce a written summary, with the potential for publication, of the landscape analysis, its findings, and recommendations made; provide presentations to diverse audiences on the same. • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following criteria: • Master’s degree or higher in a related field such as Public Health, Statistics, or a similar discipline • Reside in the state of Tennessee or an immediate surrounding state • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment • Strong written and oral communication skills (report writing, presentations) • Experience in community-based research • Experience in health data analysis, qualitative research, or landscape assessments • Experience with developing and submitting research protocols through an IRB
